Our spring wheelchair tennis session began again. While we are playing tennis in Mississauga, our teen Puisand Lai is in Sardinia, Italy representing the Canadian Junior Team in BNP Paribas World Team Cup along with 17-year-old Tomas Bourassa (Delta, BC), and 17-year-old Thomas Venos (Anmore, BC). This will be the first time Canadian juniors compete at World Team Cup since 2002. Canada joins seven other countries in the junior draw in Sardinia, Italy from May 1-7, 2017.
Puisand first joined the Little Aces Wheelchair Tennis Program in the fall of 2013 as a beginner. After two sessions, she was integrated to play with able-bodied in the minor league. Her talent didn’t end there. Subsequent to playing in the minor league, Puisand joined our adult wheelchair tennis group and then trained by Tennis Canada.
The junior team recorded a fourth place finish in the 2017 event. The BNP Paribas World Team Cup considered the Davis Cup and Fed Cup of wheelchair tennis ran from May 1-7 in Italy. Here is a video profile on Puisand by CityNews,
